John Coleman was a panelist at the California Maritime Leadership Symposium this morning. The topic for the mornings session, “2012 “STATE OF THE STATE” MARITIME TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM” enabled the BPC Executive Director to highlight the Greater San Francisco Bay Area maritime industry’s economic impact to the state and beyond.

How Infrastructure Investments Support the U.S. Economy: Employment, Productivity and Growth

UMASS Amherst Political Economy Research Institute released this 2009 study of infrastructure investment and the US economy by James Heintz, Robert Pollin, and Heidi Garrett-Peltier. Key finding: “infrastructure investment spending will create about 18,000 total jobs for every $1 billion in new investment spending, including direct, indirect, and induce jobs.”

PPIC releases new report: “Transitions for Delta Economy”

Enormous changes—from natural forces to management decisions—are coming to California’s fragile Delta region and will have broad effects on its residents. This report finds that in the first half of this century, the Delta as a whole is likely to experience a loss of 1 percent of economic activity as a result of these changes. It also identifies planning priorities for managing the Delta’s future.
