JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POLICY ASSOCIATE

The Bay Planning Coalition (BPC) announces the opening of a Policy Associate position. This is an exciting position for someone who is dedicated to strengthening the economic vitality and environmental health of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Founded in 1983, the Bay Planning Coalition is a 501(c)(4) non-profit, membership based organization representing a broad spectrum of private and public entities committed to strengthening the economic vitality and environmental health within the San Francisco Bay and its watershed. BPC represents over three decades of groundbreaking work to achieve a balanced, collaborative and common sense approach to San Francisco Bay-Delta’s environmental permit and planning process. BPC seeks an enthusiastic team player who is willing to go the extra mile to achieve the BPC mission. The Policy Associate will report to the Director of Operations & Policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Track pending legislation and regulations, and assist in identifying emerging policy issues relevant to BPC members and interests.
  • Support BPC policy staff in the design, marketing, and execution of policy committee meetings.
  • Coordinate and provide staffing assistance for BPC events, including developing agendas and pre-reading materials, coordinating audio/visual services, tracking attendance, arranging catering, soliciting sponsors, and addressing all relevant event logistics.
  • Represent BPC at public hearings and stakeholder meetings.
  • Draft content for BPC website and monthly newsletter.
  • Manage office operations including answering general inquiries, ordering supplies, and working with outside vendors as needed.
  • Manage BPC website, social media marketing, and internal database.
  • Perform other duties in support of the Bay Planning Coalition.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in the fields of environmental science, political science, public policy, economics, or urban planning. Professional experience preferred.
  • Passion for public policy issues facing the Bay Area.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and enthusiastic team member dedicated to the success of the organization’s goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Knowledgeable about using social media platforms and website for marketing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on multiple projects and meet short deadlines.

Hours: Full-time, salaried position (40 hours per week).

Location: Bay Planning Coalition office in Downtown Oakland, California

Compensation: Salary range is $40,000 – $50,000, based on experience and skills. Competitive benefits package includes health insurance stipend, 401(k) retirement plan, paid vacation and sick days, and commuter benefits.
