Summertime Travel Draws 1.3M Passengers to Oakland International Airport in July
More Flights and More Destinations Result in 6.8% Increase in Passenger Traffic
Oakland, CA (August 31, 2018) – Oakland International Airport (OAK) said today that it served 1,318,052 passengers in July, a 6.8% increase over the prior year. The July percentage increase constitutes an additional 82,541 travelers at OAK compared to 1,235,511 passengers in July 2017.
Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis, said, “It is encouraging to see OAK continue growing in a manner which reflects our airline partners’ confidence in strong customer demand.  July is historically a busy month for us, and this year proved no exception.  We hope to see increases for the remainder of 2018.”
During the first half of 2018, new service at OAK commenced to Paris and Rome on Norwegian Air, Dallas/Fort Worth on American Airlines, Orlando on Southwest Airlines, Memphis on Allegiant Air, and Crescent City on Contour Airlines. Southwest also introduced year-round daily service to New York/Newark after operating the route as a summer only flight last year.  In July, Southwest launched new daily service to San Antonio, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis/St. Paul, for a total of 35 nonstop routes served from its Oakland Focus City.
