BPC Continues Engagement on AB 617 Implementation

On August 21 a group of BPC members met with Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia and top staff members from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) to discuss the implementation of AB 617 at both the state and local level. Supervisor Gioia is a BAAQMD Board Member as well as a member of the California Air Resources Board. Key topics of discussion included: the plan for monitoring laid out in the June 2018 draft of CARB’s Draft Community Air Protection Blueprint (“the Blueprint”); intended community monitoring and emissions reduction programs; and the process for developing the Community Steering Committees required under AB 617.  BPC has joined the West Oakland Community Steering Committee as a non-voting member, which met for the first time in early July and will be meeting again on September 5th. The Richmond Community Steering Committee is still being developed.
As mentioned in our July 2018 newsletter, BPC submitted a letter regarding the draft Blueprint on July 23 and signed onto a related coalition letter organized by the California Manufacturer and Technology Association. An updated version of the Community Air Protection Blueprint was released on August 24 and is being reviewed by BPC and others.
