WRDA 2018 Legislation Passed by the House of Representatives

The Water Resources Development Act of 2018 (WRDA 2018) bill was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on June 8 in an overwhelming 408-2 vote. The U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee’s leaders introduced the bipartisan legislation on May 18. The U.S. Senate’s version of WRDA 2018, known as America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018, passed unanimously in the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works on May 22, but a vote on the legislation by the full Senate may not take place for several more weeks. BPC has been actively advocating over the last year and beyond to increase federal funding for dredging and beneficial reuse; especially in a way that allows the San Francisco District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to increase its dredging activity and address the growing threat to the regional economy that has resulted from its inability to annually dredge the Richmond Outer Harbor and Pinole Shoal. BPC will continue to monitor this legislation closely.
