April Passenger Traffic Up 5.4% at Oakland International
Monthly Passenger Totals Continue Rise Thanks to New Operations
Oakland, CA: (May 31, 2018) – The Oakland International Airport (OAK) has released its April Passenger Traffic reporting, adding yet another month of consecutive growth. Total passenger traffic at the airport increased from 1,061,616 in April 2017, to 1,119,019 passengers in April 2018. The increase represents 5.4% annual passenger growth.

The airport has increased both its domestic and international portfolios with new service this year from Norwegian Air, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Allegiant Air. Among the new routes and flights contributing to the April traffic are nonstop service to Rome and Paris on Norwegian, new service to Dallas/Fort-Worth on American, and a new weekend nonstop to Orlando on Southwest. Just yesterday, Allegiant commenced new service to Memphis – the only nonstop Bay Area flight to that city.

In July, with peak summer travel in full swing, OAK will also commence new nonstop flights to San Antonio, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis-St. Paul, and daily Orlando service, all on Southwest Airlines. The Transportation Security Administration predicts that this summer will be the busiest summer for travel on record for the U.S.

“We are pleased at the growth that our Airport continues to sustain,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis. “Travelers and airline partners have many choices in the San Francisco Bay Area, and they continue to choose OAK. This growth, along with new international and domestic markets, reflects confidence from both our customers and airlines, alike.”

OAK is the closest airport to the majority of the Bay Area’s businesses and residences, and is the fourth busiest airport in California. It is also the busiest cargo airport in the San Francisco Bay Area with large-scale operations by FedEx and UPS.
