Adapting to Rising Tides (ART) Bay Area

Greetings Regional ART Bay Area Regional Working Group (RWG),

Many thanks to those of you who were able to join us for a lively meeting and discussion in San Carlos last Wednesday. The meeting provided an opportunity for the working group to give feedback on draft project resilience goals, learn about the ART sea level rise maps, and discuss the vulnerability assessment approach that will be used as the project moves forward in the coming months.

Resilience Goals

We appreciated your recommendations on specific ways to expand the draft project resilience goals to better reflect what we care about as a region and what the region should prioritize. The draft resilience goals are posted to password protected section of the RWG page (password: artrwg). If you were unable to attend the meeting, we welcome your input on the draft resilience goals through thisonline form by November 30th. The project team will then integrate all feedback received and circulate a final draft of the resilience goals for review in a follow up email. The resilience goals will help guide the project, will be revisited after the assessment and possibly revised, and will be used to develop the evaluation criteria and during the prioritization of actions. We will also be presenting the goals to the public during the ART Bay Area public participation meetings and process and will be revising them based on public input and priorities.

Communications Subcommittee

The meeting also included a brief overview of our public participation plan as well as a call for RWG members to sign up for our Communications Subcommittee. The Subcommittee will assist the Project Management Team (PMT) with refining the public participation plan and communication approach and identifying community groups to engage. There will be periodic meetings and calls with this subcommittee and the PMT welcomes any level of involvement that you are able to provide. If you did not sign up in person last Wednesday and would like to get involved or track this work, please sign up here

Vulnerability Assessment

After a group exercise that illustrated the interdependencies between vulnerable assets, the November 8th meeting wrapped up with a discussion of next steps for the vulnerability assessment. Between now and January, the Project Team will be conducting research and analysis that will be used to draft the vulnerability assessment for the assets within the project area. This step will include reaching out to asset owners and topic area experts to gain input after the desktop analysis portion is completed. The team will have preliminary results to share in time for our next RWG meeting in January (date to be determined).

All meeting materials (slides, notes) are posted on the RWG page.

Thanks again for a productive meeting! Please reach out with any questions, comments, or feedback.

Best wishes,

The ART Bay Area Team
