Southwest to Orlando and Newark

Oakland, CA (August 29, 2017) – Oakland International Airport (OAK) welcomes the announcement by Southwest Airlines that it will add two new long-haul destinations at the East Bay airport. The announcement brings Southwest’s operation in Oakland to a total of 31 nonstop destinations throughout the US and Mexico.
Beginning April 8, 2018, Southwest Airlines will add:
  • Daily nonstop service from OAK to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Newark Liberty International Airport is the primary airport serving New Jersey and is one of three major airports in the New York City metropolitan area. Southwest began the service as a seasonal offering earlier this year. The commercial success of the flight this year led to the re-launch in 2018 as a year-round offering.
  • Saturday nonstop service to Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Service to Orlando raises the count to a dozen new destinations added at Oakland International since 2015. The flight will be OAK’s first route to the central Florida vacation destination.
Other new destinations by Southwest at OAK include (by year):
2015:     Dallas-Love, Nashville, New Orleans, Columbus, Atlanta
2016:     Long Beach, Reno-Tahoe, Saint Louis
2017:     Puerto Vallarta, San Jose del Cabo, and seasonal service to New York/Newark

Beginning in April, Southwest will have over 120 peak-day departures at OAK. OAK is the largest base for Southwest Airlines in the San Francisco Bay Area.
“Southwest has East Bay customers in mind as they continue to add nonstop flights from OAK to these two often requested destinations,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis. “San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors alike will appreciate the reliability and convenience of OAK and Southwest as they fly the East Bay way across the country and to Mexico.”
Tickets are now on sale at Southwest.com.
