The marine science community of the Monterey Bay & California meets to discuss trade & investment opportunities with China promoting sustainable marine science solutions and technology for the world’s ‘blue economy’

Santa Cruz, Ca.  (5/28/2015) – On June 11th at Moss Landing, Ca. located in the center of the dynamic Monterey Bay, marine science engineers, scientists, academics and businesspeople will gather together to rally the world leading Monterey Bay marine science research and development community and others throughout California for an event called ‘America’s Blue Silicon Valley Meets China’s Blue Silicon Valley.’

China’s Marine Economy exceeds over $7 Trillion annually and represents over 10% of China’s GDP. The coastal areas of China account for 13% of the land territory of the nation, feeds 40% of the population, and creates more than 65% of its GDP, and the Asian Pacific Region in general has the world’s highest population and the fastest growing economies and along with China face serious environmental problems relating to the ‘blue economy’.

China has coined the 9th busiest port city in the world, Qingdao, Shandong (PRC), as their ‘blue silicon valley’ and it’s there that America’s ‘blue silicon valley’ located in the Monterey Bay of California is now heading up a project with other major marine science regions in California to collaborate with Qingdao to share resources, research, technology, expertise and products at the International Ocean Technology Conference & Expo (IOTCE 2105)  that will take place in Qingdao, Shandong on September 1-3, 2015 .

The Monterey Bay International Trade Association (MBITA) in association with the Brand Monterey Bay program as partnered with the main organizers of this conference, theQingdao WELL Ocean Science & Technology Association (WOSTA), to bring the leading research, development, expertise, technology and products of the marine science community in the Monterey Bay and California to the center of China’s blue economy in Qingdao, Shandong (PRC) where  America’s ‘blue silicon valley’ will take center stage with a Monterey Bay and California exhibitor pavilion. The IOTCE 2015 conference/expo will feature other marine science professionals and companies from over 20 different countries.

The June 11th event in Moss Landing is a precursor to this IOTCE 2015 conference/expo and will feature sustainable marine science practices as well as a platform to further recruit companies for the conference/expo in China.  Nonpoint source pollution (land pollution into the ocean), marine engineering equipment manufacturing, seawater utilization, marine medicine, food and biological product manufacturing, desalination, ocean acidification, nuclear radiation, maritime transport, marine renewable technology and resource exploitation including marine services, such as, marine eco-agriculture, marine eco-tourism and the eco-environmental monitoring industries are just some examples of the kinds of companies that will be recruited for the Monterey Bay & California pavilion at IOTCE 2015 conference in China.

“The land and the ocean are interconnected like brother and sister and the non-point pollution we have in the Monterey Bay of California is likened to the same problems that Qingdao, Shandong faces, and together we can help address these problems and others to lead the world to a healthier, cleaner and more productive’ blue economy’ “, says Tony Livoti, President of MBITA.

“We must deepen our understanding of the ocean, and constantly improve our technical capacity for marine resource exploitation through innovation and technology and we look forward to our partnership with MBITA to meet these objectives and more”, states Hao Yunxing, Director of WOSTA.

MBITA is now taking applications for this historical initiative to participate as an exhibitor in the Monterey Bay & California pavilion for this upcoming conference/expo in Qingdao, Shandong (PRC) on September 1st, 2015.
