The following was announced today by Jim Walker with AAPA: “Today, AAPA and a coalition of over 40 navigation stakeholder groups sent letters to the House Appropriations Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee leaders requesting $2.755 billion for the Corps navigation program in FY 2016. AAPA initiated this letter in order to develop a single request level for coastal and inland navigation to draw greater support. This amount would:
- Hit the HMT Target of $1.25 billion
- Increase coastal navigation construction from the 10 year low amount in the budget request
- Assure adequate funding to complete existing navigation studies in three years per WRRDA and start new studies
- Fully use the inland waterways trust fund revenues which increased as a result of December 2014 legislation
