California Voters Approve Proposition 1: Water Bond

The California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA) applauds the people of California for passing Proposition 1, the Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Act of 2014 (Proposition 1).  Backed by a significant majority (67% of the votes cast), the $7.5 billion water bond will provide funding for a wide range of water projects and programs throughout California.  Read more.

2014 California State General Election Recap

Despite a historically low voter turnout, Californians reelected Governor Jerry Brown for his fourth and final term.  The Governor also led both Proposition 1, The Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 and Proposition 2, the Rainy Day Fund, to victory on Tuesday, November 4th.

2014 Midterm Election Recap

The midterm election resulted in the Republican Party keeping the House of Representative majority and wresting control of the Senate from the Democrats.  Picking up at least 13 seats to expand the majority in the House of Representative for the first time in eight decades, the Republicans also gained at least 7 seats in the Senate.

CASA Weighs in on Controversial Proposed Waters of the United States Rule
On November 5, 2014 CASA submitted comments to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) on its proposed rule to define which waters are subject to regulation under the Clean Water Act (CWA), commonly referred to as the waters of the United States rule.  The rule is being broadly followed and commented on by a wide variety of stakeholders, including agricultural interests, individual landowners, and municipalities.  Read more.
CASA Hosts Free Standard Operating Procedures Workshop
The California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA) sponsored two free training sessions on receipt of hauled in organic waste at publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) for co-digestion.  The sessions were held on October 28th at the Encina JPA in Carlsbad and October 30th at the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District in Martinez.  A total of 60 attendees were provided with information on the state of the practice…Read more.
