Bureau of Reclamation and COMET Release Video Series on Water Purification and Desalination Projects

Leitz has more than 50 years experience in the field of desalination and water treatment

DENVER – The Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with Universities Corporation for Atmospheric Research COMET Program, has released three video interviews with Frank Leitz, Senior Chemical Engineer at the Bureau of Reclamation. Leitz shares stories and lessons learned from more than 50 years of his work on water purification and desalination projects.

The first video, “Lessons-learned: Cost-modeling for Desalination Projects,” details historical lessons from his experience estimating the cost of desalination projects.

The second video, “The Pioneering Role of the Yuma Desalting Plant in Large-Scale Membrane Desalination,” provides an interesting background into the creation of this historic and innovative project.

The third and final video, “What was a major success of the Desalination and Water Purification Research Program?” Leitz describes some of the key achievements of this successful program.

Leitz has more than 50 years of experience in the field of desalination and water treatment, including 13 years in the private sector and more than 40 years with the federal government. He is currently a Senior Chemical Engineer in the Bureau of Reclamation’s Technical Service Center, Water Treatment Group. He has published more than 60 articles on desalination, water treatment, mass transfer, electrochemical processes and computer simulations. He also is responsible for five U.S. patents.
