Senate Approves Groundwater Legislation

Legislation aimed at advancing sustainable management of the state’s groundwater basins passed on the Senate floor late Wednesday afternoon.

AB 1739 by Assembly Member Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento) passed on a 26-11 vote after lengthy debate in which supporters cited an urgent need to protect groundwater resources, while opponents called for more time to resolve concerns with the bill in its current form.

Draft BDCP and its Environmental Documents to be Recirculated in 2015

The California Department of Water Resources and other agencies leading the Bay Delta Conservation Plan will publish a Recirculated Draft BDCP and its accompanying documents in early 2015, officials announced today.

The BDCP and its Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS), as well as its Implementing Agreement (IA), will be recirculated in early 2015.  The agencies leading the project are currently reviewing the comments received during the public comment period that ended on July 29, 2014.

Deadline for ACWA Fall Awards is Sept. 2

The deadline for two of ACWA’s prestigious awards —  Huell Howser’s Best In Blue Award and the ACWA Emissary Award — have Sept. 2 deadlines. Both awards will be presented at ACWA’s Fall Conference and Exhibition in San Diego.

The Huell Howser Best in Blue Award honors outstanding public water agency efforts in communicating with customers, legislators, media, the public and others. The award focuses on innovation and transparency, and takes budget into consideration.

Water Bond Educational Tool Kit Now Available to Members

A member kit is now available with several tools for use in considering a position on the $7.545 billion water bond slated for the November ballot and educating the public about the measure.

A second kit with additional resources will be distributed in coming weeks.

Save Our Water Launches Spanish Website

The Save Our Water campaign has launched a Spanish-language website –AhorreNuestraAgua.com– to help even more Californians learn about water conservation during this extraordinary drought.
