Senate Clears Waterways Package

Senators cleared legislation Thursday that would authorize funds for dozens of waterway and environmental projects, sending the measure to President Barack Obama’s desk.

The Senate voted 91-7 to adopt a conference report on the bill (HR 3080) that would authorize spending on 34 port, inland waterway and environmental restoration projects. The measure also introduces an authorization process that retains congressional authority over project approvals without using earmarks.

“It’s so important to our nation, whether you’re a coastal port or inland port. And it’s crucial that this get done,” Environment and Public Works Chairwoman Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said on the floor Wednesday. “The last WRDA bill was seven years ago. This one … is long overdue.” (more…)
