Majority Leader Harry Reid told Senate Democrats at lunch that “it was his plan” to move to Barbara Boxer and David Vitter’s water bill sometime in April or May, Boxer told reporters in a conference call Tuesday afternoon.

And though the bill will be marked up tomorrow, Vitter said work remains to be done on the floor. Vitter said he hopes to get reform of the Inland Waterways Trust Fund “roughly comparable” to what the duo propose to do for the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund, which would bring annual expenditures in line with annual revenues.

“It’s our goal to do it on the floor,” Vitter said of that change. Currently the bill contains a “sense of Congress” that inland waterways revenues aren’t used efficiently.
