Last Saturday Bay Planning Coalition was well represented at Pier 70 in San Francisco with Congressional Leader Nancy Pelosi.  Pier 70 is operated by BAE Systems Ship Repair, and owned by the Port of San Francisco.  Speaking at a well attended press conference was Leader Pelosi (front), with (Left to Right) Willie Adams of International Longshore & Warehouse Union, Hugh Vanderspek the General Manager of BAE Systems, Port of San Francisco Executive Director Monique Moyer, San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, and Port of Oakland Executive Director Omar Benjamin.

The importance of maintaining shipping channels was discussed and how critical this is for economic stability and growth.  In the case of BAE Systems, without the proper depth in the Central Channel, both commercial and military overhauls will not occur.  Pier 70 is the largest dry dock on the west coast, and without adequate depth of the channel, much of the work will be sent to other countries.
